Lucy is an artist

ABOUT lucy

Lucy’s painting experience is, well, kinda different. She doesn’t have a degree in fine art or painting or any other visual art medium. She hasn’t studied for years with any famous painters or other artists. Although she has always done creative things, like floral arranging on a grand scale, and singing with a swing band,  and making art jewelry, painting is a fairly new activity in her life.

Overnight, life changed dramatically

The ability to paint forced its way out after, among other things, being diagnosed with Type One Diabetes when she was 47 years old. Yeah that’s the one most folks realize they have when the are kids.  Overnight, life changed dramatically. Maybe visual art was a way of dealing with the emotions that come along with such a thing.  Maybe this was just the culmination of everything that life had given her thus far.   Regardless of how it happened, whether she got her art instruction from a fancy French master or straight from God, the result is striking.  There is no denying that her art is happy and hopeful, colorful and bright. A spot of beauty in a sometimes gray and dismal world. I bet it makes you smile if you will let it.

Lucy was born and raised in Jackson County, Alabama and owns a small flower shop in her hometown of Scottsboro. She earned a B.A. in Theatre Arts from Birmingham Southern College and attended school on a voice scholarship. She now lives in Fayetteville, Tn, with her husband Garner. Together they have a blended family of 4 teenage boys and an ever changing menagerie of rescued animals.

Lucy leads small and large groups of seasoned and beginning artists in North Alabama at the Huntsville Museum of Art. Her work is available at The Little Green Store and Gallery in Huntsville, Alabama, in her home studio and through this website.
